5 Most Popular Albums of 2014 in France

French's National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP : Syndicat national de l'édition phonographique) has announced the most sold album of this year in France.

The top five albums are all francophone and Stromae sits on the throne with his second album.

Stromae - "Racine carrée"

Stromae is a Belgian singer and songwriter who's second album "Racine Carrée" has sold over 1.8 million copies. The album was digitally released on May 13, 2013, includes hits such as "Papaoutai", "Formidable" and "Tous les même".

This year alone "Racine Carrée" made 632,000 sales.

Indila - "Mini World"

Indila is a French R&B singer and songwriter. She released her first album "Mini World" on February 24, 2014 and has hits such as "Dernière danse", "S.O.S" and "Tourner dans le vide".

"Mini World" has since sold 415.000 copies.

Les Enfoirés - "Bon anniversaire Les Enfoirés"

Les Enfoirés which means "The Bastards" in English is the name given to a group of French artists and personnalities who come together every year since 1986 to make an album and raise funds for charity. The money raised from the sales of records, concert tickets and donations are given to Les Restos du Cœur (Restaurants du Cœur).

Restaurants du Cœur can be translated in English as Restaurants of the Heart but what it truly means is Restaurants of Love). The French charity distribute food packages and hot meals to the needy in winter. It was founded by the comedian Coluche in 1985.

Their album "Bon anniversaire Les Enfoirés", which was released March 15, 2014, has sold 308.000 album. It has hits such as "Noir et blanc", "Attention au départ" et "Laissez-nous chanter".

Maître Gims - "Subliminal"

Maître Gims is a French rapper who is part of the rap group Sexion d'Assaut. His first solo album, Subliminal, which was released on May 20, 2013 sold 493.000 in 2013 and 267.000 copies since the begining of this year. Maître Gims also founded his own record label, MMC (Monstre Marin Corporation) which produced Subliminal. The album has hits such as "J'me tire", "Bella" and "One Shot" (feat. Dry).

Florent Pagny - "Vieillir avec toi"

Florent Pagny is a French musician and actor. His 12th studio album "Vieillir avec toi" was released on Novembre 4 2013. With hits such as "Vieillir avec toi", "Souviens-toi" and "Le soldat", he made 246.000 sales this year and 281 sales in 2013.
